1012. What types of work are not covered by Section 218 Agreements?

Certain types of work are not covered by Section 218 agreements (see §1000.2) because Federal law excludes them. You are not covered under Section 218 agreements if:

  1. You were hired to be relieved from unemployment;

  2. You work as a patient or inmate in a hospital, home, or other institution thereof;

  3. You work as a transportation system employee, which is compulsorily covered for Social Security (see §1013);

  4. You work for a private employer and that work is not defined as employment under Section 210(a) of the Social Security Act. You are hired to work on a temporary basis in case of a fire, storm, snow, earthquake, flood or other similar emergency.
