Certain types of work are not covered by Section 218 agreements (see §1000.2) because Federal law excludes them. You are not covered under Section 218 agreements if:
You were hired to be relieved from unemployment;
You work as a patient or inmate in a hospital, home, or other institution thereof;
You work as a transportation system employee, which is compulsorily covered for Social Security (see §1013);
You work for a private employer and that work is not defined as employment under Section 210(a) of the Social Security Act. You are hired to work on a temporary basis in case of a fire, storm, snow, earthquake, flood or other similar emergency.
