I have copd, been diagnosed as having lungs of a 99 year old, around 54% function, would I qualify for SS disability. I have worked for 40 years & paid into the SS system. I am now 61 years old & no longer able to work.

I didn't see much in the literature for COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), but there is more under emphysema. Here is one excerpt :

I am 51 years old and have copd. The doctor told me to sign up for SSD. That was in February of 2009. I just got awarded SSD. I am to get my first check in a month. I hope this help you.
