I understand that I will have to pay back the $250 stimulus check because I have no earned income in 2009. How will that affect my social security earnings?

Where did you see you have to pay back the $250 payment for 2009? I have seen no evidence indicating earned income has any role in the $250 payment for 2009.

I have seen the following criteria :

  • You must have received Social Security, SSI benefits, or otherwise be eligible per the Department of Veterans Affairs or Railroad Retirement Board
  • You must live in the United States or territories
  • You must not be a prisoner, fugitive felon, or probation / parole violator

Also note the one-time economic recovery payment does NOT count as gross income for federal income tax purposes.
