I am collecting social security benefits at age 68 my child is eligible for benefits and has been receiving them but is moving out. Does she need to be living in my home to receive benefits from my SS Benefits?

Benefits for children of retirement beneficiary
August 1, 2009 by admin
Please check with SSA to confirm, but I have not seen a requirement stating that a child must live with you to receive such benefits.
To receive benefits, the child must:
* be unmarried; and
* be under age 18; or
* be 18-19 years old and a full-time student (no higher than grade 12); or
* be 18 or older and disabled from a disability that started before age 22.
Also note if a child on your record works while receiving benefits, the same earnings limits apply to him or her as apply to you. This may be a greater area of concern for a child who moves out (and may be working).
