Mckinney Social Security Office Notes

Social Security office hours have been reduced the past few years. Now almost all Social Security offices have the same hours of 9:00 to noon on Wednesdays, and 9:00 to 3:00 on other weekdays. Fridays may be a bit less crowded. Try to get an appointment by phone first. You can do many things like signup for retirement benefits online at ssa.gov.

Name Change and Widow Benefits

How do I change my name for social security card records and to get a new card with correct name? Also my husband passed away 03/07/08 and I need to know about widow benefits as well.

Thanks

current and correct phone number for the social security office

July 20, 2009 by Guest

The phone number listed is not a working number no matter how you dial it. That doesn't help when you want to call and make sure you are bringing all the necessary documents with you rather than have to make several trips because you couldn't reach anyone.

Correcting wrong birth date with Medicare

I would first try working with Social Security on this. Try your local office first. Social Security provides birth date and other information to Medicare.

See here for information on name change :

The relevant form, SS-5 does not indicate a fee. In my experience, there is no fee.

is the "no fee" also true for getting a replacement card if the original has been lost?

You can replace your card or your child's card for free if it is lost or stolen. However, you are limited to three replacement cards in a year and 10 during your lifetime.

Extension List

February 21, 2013 by Guest

I believe there should be an extension list for the representatives. I have to wait on hold (McKinney Office) for 10 minutes just to get to an operator when you need to speak to a specific representative. It seems every year we get a new representative so this would be helpful.
